A New Year, So Let’s Make Our Homes a Sanctuary

It’s a new year so let’s make a year goal of helping to make our homes a sanctuary. Month by month we will work on a space to help our homes..

A few weeks ago Eddy and I deep cleaned our bedroom. It has never been that clean and organized in the four and half years we have lived in our home. When I’m in our room I feel alive and less stressed. It got me thinking that I needed to do a year long project with you all to make our homes a sanctuary.

Prior to the deep clean we had gone through everything in our room: our closet, dresser, nightstands, clothes, junk, an old box that had been sitting in the corner since we moved in… You name it! We decluttered, cleaned, and organized it.

This was the last room in our house that needed a good cleaning. It was the last because it was a dumping grounds for junk and crap. Well, not anymore!

One morning I had posted on Instagram a picture of my girls playing on a dirty mound of snow. They were in heaven and had pure joy. My point was to find joy in the little things.

After posting that I jumped in the shower. It was one of those real showers: hair washing, some saving, nice face wash, you know, the works. When I walked into my room that was cleaned, organized, and had a made bed I let out a sigh of relief.

For so long my master bedroom was a disaster. I was used to it, so I could live with it. But, the JOY I felt every time I walked in because we had taken the time to get it organized was AMAZING!!

This is not a new feeling to me. Over the course of a year, in 2019, I did my whole house! It was such a fantastic project. We have less stuff (I’m still working on getting rid of more).

Read more about that: here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here. And many other blog posts about spaces I decluttered and organized.

More things have a home. I’m still working on getting my family to put some things back into their home, but it’s better then it was. We are working on making certain things a habit to help keep our home cleaned and organized.

This is where my light bulb idea came while I was having a “real” shower. Are you ready?

Why not make a year out of helping others free their minds, houses, and the crap junk that they are holding on to. So that’s what I am going to do! Each month, to those that subscribe which is FREE, I will send out a calendar to help you with that months challenge.

It’s going to be a blast! I am hoping it will help you achieve my goal of helping to make our homes a sanctuary. We can only control what happens in our homes. So let’s make it great.

January 2020: Make a Plan

How good is a goal without a plan? Not so much… So I have made FREE printables that can help us with our plans. You will be able to lay out your big goals, how to accomplish them, be accountable for you goals, and recap on your goals.

Also, during this month we will create a cleaning plan or schedule. This will help to keep things and spaces clean throughout the year.

This is the start to making our homes a sanctuary! We will go room by room to have our homes decluttered, organized, and cleaned in one year.

At the beginning of each month I will email you a calendar detailing the goal or room/area for that month. Click here to get signed up. You will get the main goal (you can then use the free printables to fill out your plan for the month/space) and some helpful tips during the month.

Are you ready??!! I sure hope so! We are on our way to making our homes a place of refuge and peace. If you have mental health issues then this will surly help! A more free physical space can do wonders on your mental space.

Xxx, Steph

  1. I love this idea! A clean, organized room is so refreshing. Currently we are in cramped quarters, but will be moving into a new home in just a couple months. I CAN’T WAIT to move in and start putting some organizational systems into place.

    1. That was the BEST when we moved from our 550 square foot basement apartment to our home a few years ago, with 2.5 kids. Good luck with your move and unpacking in your new home!!

  4. I LOVE THIS! I cannot stand clutter, yet it always seems to build up once you have kids. I love the idea of devoting this year to maintaining a comfortable space – a sanctuary as you stated. I also had to laugh when you described your, “real” shower. Totally can relate!

  5. Great printables!! I remember the same feeling when we (hubby and I) deep cleaned our master bedroom. I then decided to focus on one room a month and have been able to “keep up” with everything. Although spring breaks, summer vacation, and winter breaks are great times to catch up , if needed. Thanks for sharing!
