January 2020 Goals: December 2019 Recap
A new year, a new month, you know that means, new goals! My January 2020 goals are here. What are your goals for January 2020?
Holy Cow!! It’s a new year! I’m feeling all the feels that come with a new year. How about you? Last year I blogged about my goals for each month. It was so incredibly helpful for me. So this year, I’m going to do the same thing, starting with my January 2020 goals.
Now, this isn’t just a place for me to blurt out my goals. Nope, I want to help YOU! I want you to see the value and benefit of short term goals. And how having short term goals will help you achieve long term goals.
Last month, in my Now What blog post I talked about what to do now that the holidays are over. It can be the same for a new year. Now what?! I talked about goals. How having a big goal (or a few) can really help us become better.
Then I went into detail of how to accomplish that big goal. Check it out as you think about some goals you might want to accomplish this year. It’s a great time to start. 🙂
December 2019 Recap
Garage
Well, we didn’t get around to finishing the one side of our garage that has things we no longer want or need. We’ll keep it this way until we get to our monthly goal of garages with my homes a sanctuary yearly goal. (You can always join us at any time, click here.)
Random Finishes
We were able to cross off some of our random finishes, it felt great! We still have some more to do. So, again we will tackle them when we get to the month where they will fit.
Would I have loved to have them all done in December? Well, yes. But December is busy and other things were more important. And that is OKAY!!! We will get to them this year. 🙂
Master Bedroom
We did it! We got it decluttered, cleaned, and organized. I really wanted to get it decorated. But, for now I still don’t know what I want to do with it. It would be great to do it all, but I don’t want to spend the money on it now.
I do plan on adding pictures and some plants. Maybe I’ll make some sort of headboard. It is will so much better then it was last month. I’ll that that as a huge win!
Now, let me share with you my goals.
January 2020 Goals
Personal
- Budget with Eddy
- Pictures on my phone
- Cleaning schedule
Budget With Eddy
This past year we got off track with budgeting. I mean big time. We have this roller coaster with our monthly budgeting. We need to get back on track and become more in tune with our spending, saving, and repaying Eddy’s student loans.
In 2017 and 2018 we were able to pay off about $45,000 in Eddy’s student debt that we had been paying on for years. They were lame loans that he got before we were married. We wanted those to be paid off before his pharmacy loans kicked in. We did it!!
Last year we didn’t get to pay any extra on his loans. It didn’t help that we had some big expenses that we choose to do and some that we had no choice. Termites, replacing a broken refrigerator, putting in a much needed AC (I mean, who wants live in a house with a broken swamp cooler with temps in high 80’s and 90’s?), tires on both cars, unexpected medical expense, a super cool vacuum and air purifier (this was our choice).
So, this year we are getting back on track with saving extra money each month to go towards student loans. We want to make a budget and be able to stick to it monthly.
Pictures On My Phone
I have about 16,000 pictures and videos on my phone! It’s insane!! I really need to get that taken care of. I love, love having so much space on my phone. But, it’s time to get my pictures and videos in order. This is going to be a mini goal within my bigger goal of getting all of our pictures organized.
I used my free printable to map out my big goal of picture organization. One of my mini goals is getting my phone in order. It’s going to be a project and through trial and error I’m hopeful that I will be able to start a monthly habit of taking care of my pictures.
Cleaning Schedule
In keeping and staying on track with my monthly Make a Home a Sanctuary this year I will be doing the challenges with you each month. Since we already have a cleaning schedule in place that is working I am just going to update anything and make sure things are organized.
You can get signed up here! Each month, at the beginning of the month you will get an email from me with that month’s calendar and monthly decluttering, cleaning, and organizing challenge. I realized last year as I was doing this in my home that I felt lighter, less stressed, and would feel calmer when I walked into a room that was cleaned.
It has been a great tool in helping me find peace and sanctuary in my own home. I want you to have that same gift! It has also helped with my depression and anxiety.
Work
- 1,000 influencer list
- Blogging course
My January 2020 goals for work are going to be getting intense because I have some BIG goals for myself this year. I just opened a shop on my blog. There are some cute things in there but I have big plans for future things and it’s going to be a lot of hard work. I’m super excited and a bit nervous.
But, just remember:
- We can gain so much growth from having goals and working hard.
- We will have failures. But without these failures we will not have awesome success.
- We are ENOUGH!
- We can do hard things.
- We can help each other and cheer each other on.
What are your January 2020 goals? Do you have a word for the year? Have you taken advantage of my free goal printables and my yearly project of decluttering, cleaning, and organizing your whole house this year? You should! Both can be very helpful with your January 2020 goals.
Happy January 2020!!
My goals for January 2020 are to work more on ny blog daily and manage my finances better. Thanks for sharing
Two very awesome goals! Good luck and thanks so much! 😁
I would love to get my house all organized and “sanctuary” like. I am making this a goal for myself this year as well. Small chunks help me get the job done.
Small chunks is the way to go! Think about joining my monthly goal this year. We’ll tackle an area or space in the house each month. Before you know it your house will be in order! The link is at the bottom of this post. 😃
We have SO many similar goals! Have you heard of the budget mom? I highly recommend her. On Instagram & YouTube. 🙂
Yay!! Love when I hear others have similar goals. 😃 I haven’t, but will have to check her out! Thanks!
I feel like I might end up spending quite a bit of time on your blog because I have all these ideas of getting things done, but then I get soo overwhelmed trying to figure things out. I feel like maybe if I used some of your direction it would help me get on the right track. I have 4 girls (13, 3, and 1 year old twins), work part-time, take care of everything around the house, physical therapy and speech therapy for the twins, and so so much more and really just need some organization EVERYWHERE. Lol. Thank you so much for sharing your tips on organization and trying to stick to goals.
You are a busy mama!! Please look around and let me know if there is anything else I can help with! Keep up the good work on rocking your mom life! 😀
For 2020, I really want to work harder on my blogs. I want to help people more and I want to travel to places I have never been before.
I intend to add more along the way.
Those are some great goals! Where do you want to travel this year?
Thanks for sharing your goals and process. I too, have to do something with all of the pictures on my phone!
It’s a huge problem! 😂 Thanks Margaret!
Your declutter project is screaming my name! I NEED TO DO THIS!!
Oh please join then! It’ll be fun. 😀
You’ve got the right idea! Your motivation is an inspiration.
Oh thank you so much Sue, you’re very kind! 🙂
I love sticky notes and use them a lot to keep my organized and goal oriented.
Sticky notes ARE awesome!! Good luck with your goals this year! 🙂
Wow! I thought I had a lot of pictures and videos on my phone but in reality, I only have a fraction of what you have. Good luck with your goals for 2020…
Haha, it’s a huge problem!! Thanks! Likewise, good luck with your goals. 🙂
This is awesome. I think my first goal is to take an afternoon and sit down and map out my big goals of the year and then break them down into baby step goals. Thanks for your post, it gave me a little nudge that I need.
Thank you so much! I’m sure glad it helped. 🙂 I have free printables for helping you fill out your goals and baby step goals. Let me know if you need help finding them. And good luck! You got this.
I never seem to get to my family photos because I always get enlisted to shoot for my kids’ ballet studio. Since I shoot on a DSLR, I end up editing all my photos and it takes A LOT of time. My January goal is to finish up Nutcracker photos so I can move on to family photos. (And maybe to clean my room.) 🙂
I bet it takes a long time to edit photos! How awesome that you help out with our kiddos’ ballet studio photos. Good luck with getting them edited so you can work on a personal goal! 🙂
Good luck with your goals this year! I totally agree with having a clean room, I am the same way. I always tell my husband “mess gives me anxiety” lol.
Thanks Rianna! Doesn’t is feel amazing to have a clean space?! Good luck with your goals and year!! 🙂
I love how you broke your goals down into months. Great idea!!! That makes the big list doable!
It was a total game changer for me last year. Give it a try and see how you like it. Good luck! 🙂
