This Christmas wreath is very easy to make AND you only need 2 supplies and a few tools. And just 4 steps. I bet you could have this project finished before you say, “This is the most fun and darling DIY Christmas wreath I have ever seen or made before!”
Supplies
- Fabric of your choosing
- Foam wreath
Tools
- Hot glue gun
- Scissors OR
- Cutting mat
- Cutting ruler
- Cutter
You might even have all the things you need at home. That is a huge plus! Foam wreaths can be pricey. I have found the Dollar Tree to have the perfect size and the perfect price. You can also check any craft store or buy online from Amazon.
The fabric needs to be cut into 1.5 inches wide strips. If you have a smaller foam wreath you will need less strips. If you have a larger one then you’ll need more strips.
For my DIY Christmas wreath I used a 10 in foam wreath and 4 different patterns of fabric. I cut my fabric pieces in half so I had a total of 8 strips. Each strip was about 15-20 inches long. For a total of 120-160 inches of fabric strips 1.5 inches wide.
The amount of fabric that you will need will depend on the size of your wreath and how many different patters of fabric you are choosing to have. When you are picking out your fabric the person cutting it for you can help you figure out how much you’ll need.
It will not be very much. I bought a yard of each of the 4 fabric patterns and that was enough to make 22 wreaths, with 4 yards.
You will want to keep in mind something you’ll want to hang the wreath from. You can do a strip of fabric, ribbon, or a nail or hook.
Let’s get making our DIY Christmas Wreath!
Cut the Fabric Into Strips
You can try to rip the fabric but I usually find that it doesn’t rip even. I usually cut my fabric with my fabric mat, ruler, and cutter. I am much better using that then my scissors.
However, scissors will do the trick.
Heat Up That Glue Gun
You don’t need to go crazy with gluing. I normally put a little line of glue to the start and finish of each strip of fabric. I like my fabric to end at the back of the Christmas wreath. It looks nicer and more finished.
But it’s up to you how you want it to look.
Wrapping the Fabric
Once you have a thin line of glue (on the back of your wreath) go ahead and place your first strip of fabric on the glue. You are going to want to wrap the fabric around the wreath, making sure you cover all the wreath.
Once a strip of fabric comes to an end try to get it to finish in the back and again place a thing line of glue right before you finish with the end of the fabric strip.
Hanging Your DIY Christmas Wreath
As I mentioned before there are many different ways you can hang your wreath: nail or hook, with ribbon or lots of ribbon, or with another strip of fabric. I use an extra strip of fabric.
If you are going to use the fabric make sure you tie it onto a different fabric pattern. Or not, it’s up to you! I like to see the difference.
You will have to fold the fabric strip in half.
Then put the fold onto the Christmas wreath.
Put the loose ends around the wreath and through the loop.
Pull tight and tie a bow or knot on the top to hang.
What did I tell you? Was it easy and quick? You may not have been able to finish before you said that really long (but totally true…) sentence. But it’s still pretty fast.
Please oh please show me pictures in the comments of you DIY Christmas wreath! I really want to see what fabric you choose and how they turn out. And, as always, if you like this project please share on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest. I’d surely love it!!!
Xxx, Steph
