Awesome Halloween Books You Need: Part 2

Did any of you get a chance to find and read any of the books I had in Awesome Halloween Books You Need: Part 1? If you haven’t seen it then give it a read. You’ll find out one of my favorite Halloween books. 🙂 Today, we get to see more wonderful books in Awesome Halloween Books You Need: Part 2. I know it is such a clever title… haha!

When you think about reading as a child what memories do you have? One I have is a read-a-thon in elementary school. We got to bring blankets and pillows. I had a stack of books and got comfy reading. It was a fun time to just read, whatever I wanted. Did you have read-a-thons as a child? I think as it gets colder my kiddos and I should have one. I know Mr. E and I would love it. The girl’s might loose interest after a bit.

If you want to do a Halloween read-a-thon then you must add these books into your book collection. 🙂

Book 1: Spooky Hour by Tony Mitton

This is such a cute counting book. It starts out with 12 and works its way down 1. Each page shows Halloween characters on their way to some spooky fun. The pictures are very colorful and gives children a lot to look at. The words have a really good flow as you read. It is a fun book to read out loud. I almost want to sing the words as I read it. I could stand to get a newer copy as my students have loved this one so many times.

Book 2: Stellaluna by Janell Cannon

This technically not a Halloween book. But, I love this book so I’m adding it. When I was teaching we would talk about bats around Halloween so this book fit perfectly. It is a fiction book with such a great story. Stellaluna is a baby bat that gets lost from her mom and ends up in a bird’s nest. She lives with the birds for a bit doing things like birds. When she tries to do things that a bat would do the mama bird got mad at her. She would have to do bird things or leave the nest. If you want to know how this book ends then you will have to just read it. 🙂

Book 3: Trick or Treat, Smell My Feet by Diane de Groat

In this story Gilbert is going to be a Martian Space Pilot and his little sister, Lola is going to be a ballerina. Lola loves her big brother and likes to copy whatever he does. So when he puts his costume in a brown paper bag to take to school, Lola does the same thing. There is a mix up and Gilbert has the wrong Halloween costume for his school parade. He tries to fix it without anyone knowing. In the end Gilbert teaches us all a good lesson; being different is a good thing and something to be proud of. My children love this book. It’s a fun one and has some silly parts, get ready to read it often.

Book 4: Click, Clack, Boo! by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin

Just like their other books (which I highly recommend) this book is fabulous. The same Farmer Brown has some unusual interaction with the animals on his farm.  Farmer Brown’s animals are not like other farm animals. They are pretty cool! In Click, Clack, Boo! a character is not a fan of Halloween while many others seem to really get into it. Read to see what note gets put on Farmer Brown’s door and the excitement happening in the barn this time.

I suggest you either find these books at the library or purchase them. They will make a great addition to your Halloween books. If you are not able to buy many books right now, that is more then fine. Make a list of the books you like from my Awesome Halloween book series. You might be able to find some on sale after Halloween. My goal is to buy a couple books each year to slowly build our collection.
